"About Shojiro Hasami Hamono Kougei"

Shojiro Hasami Hamono Kougei in Narita City, Chiba, is a workshop that preserves the traditional Japanese sword–making technique of total fire‑forging. Without using molds, artisans hand‑craft kitchen knives, scissors, and other tools by hammering iron heated to around 900°C.

Visitors can join a unique paper‑knife forging experience, striking the red‑hot steel together with the craftsman. The sparks, heat, and gradual shaping offer a memorable, hands‑on encounter. Finished knives can be taken home and cherished for years as tools that develop character with continued use.

Furthermore, the blades made by Shojiro Hasami Hamono Kougei are exceptional in their sharpness and durability, and are designated as traditional crafts of Chiba Prefecture. The opportunity to witness the honed craftsmanship up close in a workshop steeped in history is also a major draw.
